Our analysis
Why this matters
Kazakhstan's government has approved an investment agreement with MSP-ROMPHARM LLP worth KZT 36.7 billion. The company will produce 101 medicines — including analgesics, anti-inflammatories, cold remedies and antimicrobials — at production sites in the TURAN special economic zone in the Turkestan region and in the Almaty region. The foreign partners are World Medicine and Rompharm. The project is expected to create about 265 jobs, the most of the four projects approved that day.
By molecule count this is the broadest of the four approvals, and it is aimed at the highest-volume part of the market: everyday hospital and pharmacy products. The Turkestan site also extends pharmaceutical manufacturing to Kazakhstan's south, closer to the Uzbek and Kyrgyz borders and outside the usual Almaty cluster.
