Our analysis
Why this matters
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) and Novartis announced on 28 October 2026, during the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, the activation of the Abu Dhabi Clinical Trials Hub. The hub will host Novartis global Phase 3 programmes across neuroscience, cardiovascular disease, oncology and immunology. It builds on a memorandum of understanding the two signed on 5 June 2024, which covered clinical research, evidence generation, healthcare innovation and capability development.
The step matters because it moves the relationship from a framework to live, registrational studies. Phase 3 trials are where regulators and payers form their view of a medicine, so sites that take part early tend to gain earlier familiarity with new therapies. Each study and site still needs feasibility checks and regulatory, ethics and institutional approval, so the number of trials that actually open is the figure to track.
