Why this matters
Iraq's Ministry of Health and Roche signed a cooperation programme to develop specialist medical care in the country, according to a ministry statement reported by Iraq Business News. The signing took place on Monday 26 October 2026. Dr Hani Al-Aqabi, the ministry's Technical Deputy, signed on behalf of Minister Abdulhussein Aziz, and Dr Ayman Haj Ibrahim, Roche's country director for Iraq, signed for the company. The Swiss ambassador attended.
The programme covers four areas: diagnostics using modern equipment and supplies supported by AI technologies; specialist training for medical and health staff; health awareness initiatives; and support for eye-disease and haematology hospitals and specialist centres. It follows earlier Roche–ministry cooperation, including a partnership renewed in 2024 that focused on digital tools and early detection.
