Our analysis

Why this matters

Lotus Pharmaceutical of Taiwan has agreed to acquire Sandoz's business in the Philippines. Lotus will take over sales and marketing of the existing portfolio — mainly generics and biosimilars — and about 80 Sandoz Philippines employees are expected to join it. Closing was expected in the second quarter of 2026.

Two strategies meet here. Global generics companies are concentrating on markets where they have scale and handing smaller affiliates to regional operators; Asian mid-caps are buying those affiliates to build multi-country platforms with established brands and teams. The Philippines, with a large out-of-pocket retail market and a growing hospital segment, is a natural place for that transfer.
