Our analysis

Why this matters

Hanmi Pharmaceutical has signed an export supply agreement with Organon for three combination drugs in cardiovascular and respiratory care, to be sold in Malaysia and the Philippines. Two of the products are already approved in the Philippines. Hanmi puts the deal's value at about KRW 52.7 billion (about US$34 million), based on projected revenue over ten years.

Fixed-dose combinations are one of Korea's strongest pharmaceutical exports: they improve adherence in chronic disease and are hard for local generics makers to copy quickly. For Organon, which needs products for its established-brands business in emerging markets, in-licensing differentiated combinations is cheaper than developing them.
