Why this matters
Gypto Pharma, Egypt's state-backed Drug City, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Djibouti's Bacha Group to build a strategic partnership on pharmaceutical security. The talks covered registering a range of Egyptian medicines in Djibouti and supplying them directly. The MoU was signed during an official visit by Bacha Group chairwoman Hibo Bacha.
Egypt has a large, mostly local manufacturing base and wants export growth in Africa to justify it. Djibouti is a small market but a strategic one: its port is the main trade gateway for Ethiopia and a logistics hub for the Horn of Africa. A registered product range and a local commercial partner there is a low-cost first step toward much larger East African demand.
