Our analysis
Why this matters
Duopharma (M) Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned unit of Malaysia's Duopharma Biotech, has signed a supply agreement with Taiwan's Enimmune Corp giving it exclusive rights to distribute EnVAX-A71 in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. EnVAX-A71 is a monovalent vaccine against enterovirus 71 (EV71), a main cause of severe hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in young children.
HFMD outbreaks are a recurring public-health burden in Malaysia, and EV71 vaccination is not part of the country's national immunisation programme. An approved vaccine with a local commercial partner would open a new childhood-vaccine category, with potential for private-market sales and, later, public programmes.
