Pharco to Open First Saudi Plant in Madinah by Mid-2027

The plant starts with oral solid-dosage medicines , with a stated roadmap into more specialized territory: biologics and vaccines. CEO Dr. Sherine Helmy framed it as a strategic base for expansion across Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf — leveraging the Kingdom's market size and its fast-maturing regulatory and investment environment. The timing rides Saudi Arabia's Vision-2030 push to raise localization rates, deepen advanced-manufacturing capability, and harden supply-chain security — where locally-made product earns procurement preference that imports can't match.

It's a notable shift in strategy. Pharco is moving from relying on exports to establishing an industrial footprint inside one of the Middle East's largest drug markets — and its phased ambition (solids first, biologics and vaccines later) signals intent to climb the value chain, not just localize commodity generics.

The Saudi build is one leg of a broader regional play. Pharco is targeting ~$60 million in exports in 2026 (up ~13% from ~$53M last year) and is studying two more plants in Africa — one in the east, one in the west — after scouting Angola, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. The group already runs six plants with ~300 million packs of annual capacity (~1 million a day). The result is a deliberate multi-hub network — Gulf and Africa — anchored on its Egyptian base.

The read: Pharco joins a growing cohort of Egyptian majors industrializing in the Gulf — but where AUG bought its way in (acquiring Medpharma), Pharco is building greenfield. Two routes, one destination: make it in the Gulf, sell it across the region.
