Global Napi Signals Two New Localization Projects as Egypt's Manufacturing Push Accelerates

Who GPG is.

Founded by Makram Mehany (whose first plant went live in 1998 producing Clomid under a Sanofi licence), GPG is now one of Egypt's more serious manufacturers — three EMA/PIC-S-approved facilities (Global Napi, Global Pharmaceutical Industries, and the Global Advanced Pharmaceuticals "mega-factory," whose six modules span oncology, cephalosporins, ophthalmics and large-volume IV, with an oncology line exceeding 100 million blisters a year).

It carries ~130 local brands, exports to 30+ countries, and is expanding into Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.

Crucially, it already runs a deep bench of multinational relationships — licence agreements with MSD, Sanofi, Novartis, Stada, Pierre Fabre and SUN, and contract-manufacturing arrangements with Bayer, Pfizer, Roche and Boehringer Ingelheim — which is why it can credibly stand up as a localization platform.

Why it matters.

The move lands inside a genuinely fast-moving national story. Egypt's pharmaceutical self-sufficiency has reached 91.3% (with a 94% target), 208 imported products have been replaced , and 30+ treatments localized since 2024.

The frontier is now the hard stuff — in January 2026 Egypt localized a leukemia biosimilar (displacing ~$44M/year of imports) and lung-cancer therapies (~$14.4M/year), as the country shifts from fill-and-finish toward deep manufacturing in oncology, biologics, insulin and vaccines. GPG's two projects — and its 360° positioning across manufacturing, licensing and distribution — are the latest brick in that wall.

The two projects involving ABBOTT & EVER PHARMA.

What to watch.

Which therapeutic areas the projects target (GPG's oncology capacity and Egypt's biologic focus make those the areas to watch), and whether the projects reach genuine deep manufacturing rather than repackaging.

We'll track it and update the moment it is clear.
